“Worked Fantastically Together With Other Prevention Steps — Practically No Mosquito Bites After Nine Days From The Jungle!!! ”
I only came back from a nine-day trip deep into the jungle jungle — into the reserve part of Manu National Park. It was an incredible journey! Great nature, and exceptionally isolated and pristine (an area never disturbed, and occupied by non-contacted peoples). But I was nervous since in the past ten decades or so I’ve been with a strong allergic reaction to them and heaps of bug bites. I obsessed over exactly what to do because I have had such a reaction to bug bites to prevent mosquito bites as much as you can, and the jungle is certainly filled with mosquitos and other biting insects! . I am happy to state that everything that I did worked that I didnt even notice them until I searched for them, and I got snacks. Everybody else in our group got plenty of snacks, and they had been itching like Here is what I did and what I brought:1. I have a friend who’s a doctor. He advised me to take Vitamin B complex daily for each day in the jungle and a week until the trip. I used these:andnbsp;Nature Made Super B Complex Tablets, Value Size, 360 Count2. I bought two bottles of the Permethrin spray and very carefully sprayed ALL of my clothes, carefully following the directions. I sprayed all my clothing at home in my own garage, then packaged it all in these giant ziploc bags:andnbsp;Ziploc Big Bag Double Zipper, Large, 5-Countandnbsp;(incidentally, those bags were great for packing everything and really helped keep things from becoming too damp from the 100% humidity jungle!) . I sprayed the three pairs of hiking trousers I brought, three long-sleeved shirts, all my thick hiking socks, along with my sunhat (both sides). I put extra spray in any way openings – pant cuffs, shirt cuffs, and top button seams. While that I constantly tucked my pants legs into my socks. I never did this, although the tour company had proposed wearing a cotton t-short under shirts because the mosquitoes bite through clothes; I didnt need to since I didnt receive snacks through the clothing that was Permethrin-sprayed. This stuff worked, as I didn’t get bites through my clothes! 3. I took the antihistamine Loratidine (generic for Claritin, this particular one:andnbsp;GoodSense Allergy Relief Loratadine Tablets, 10 mg, 30 Count Bottle) as a prophylactic every morning, to prevent my strong reaction to snacks. I didnt feel anything at all out of them, although this worked GREAT — I’d get a few snacks, as I could see the tiny dots! I took only enough I was in the jungle. In the two days in Cusco before returning to the US I started itching a little on a couple of bites. In hindsight, I should have taken a couple of tablets to take after the trip in the next few days. (Another tip – some people today get tired on this material; I analyzed it first in the home before going on my trip. There are other OTC non-drowsy antihistamines you can test if this doesnt work, such as the generic for Zyrtec.) 4. DEET was purchased by me. In my paranoia about insect bites as well as my prior response to these, I bought several distinct versions of DEET — spray, wipes, and lotion, but I used only this spray, and only 3 times:andnbsp;Repel 94101 6-Ounce Sportsmen Max Insect Repellent 40-Percent DEET Pump Spray, Case Package of 1. That bottle is plenty for many people; to minimize weight and quantity on your pack you will possibly want to put it to a bigger spray bottle. I sprayed the backs of my hands, and wiped in the backs of my hands onto my neck, cheeks, and forehead.5. I had a mosquito head net that I bought years ago. Amazon has others but maybe not the one I’ve got, so I cant provide a hyperlink. I used this only a couple of times once the mosquitos were thick. I’d sprayed this also with Permethrin before leaving home.6. I also brought with me an over the counter anti-itch creme (hydrocortisone), and a prescription-strength anti-itch creme (Clobetisol). I never used 1!!!!! But my partners were happy that I had it so that they could use it! I also had Sting Eze (StingEze Max2 Insect Bite Itch Relief Dauber, 0.5-Ounce), however this too I never wanted, and my travelling friends were quite pleased to use.I worried a LOT prior to the trip about getting mosquito bites and my response to them. Really worried. For moving I questioned my sanity! But with this particular Permethrin spray and what else I did to prep, I had NO problems with mosquitos and I was able to enjoy the trip!!!!
